Putting aside the pro-natural everything rhetoric, I say, finally someone said: Wha!?! - to the insane idea that you can avoid cancer by lopping off your breasts! I have been asking ever since Mrs. Osbourne did it - how are these women empowering women when they are one of a few hand fulls (no pun intended) of women who can actually beautifully reconstruct their breasts with the best surgeons money can buy? How is this inspiring? It would be inspiring if they chose to do this when they were faced with the problem presenting itself first perhaps? Or when they were faced with the choice to have double mastectomies with no hope of reconstructing those double D beauties? It’s not “brave” or “empowering” to do it when you express no signs of cancer and you have money to burn. It’s called a life-style choice. That is all. Some women do not have this luxury. The article also goes on to talk about how cancer doctors are now “scaring women into having these surgeries” (the antiquated - sometimes unnecessary hysterectomy - is another one). I have always said this is a form of intimidation and the last time I looked that isn’t looked very highly upon by feminists. Angelina was scared to get cancer because there was a “chance” she would in the far future according to the science so she casually maimed herself. Can we call this “cutting”? No really. How much attention does this women want? Oh - and I love it when the author of this article asks if a cancer doctor would lop off his own testicles to avoid cancer. Oh - I don’t think so.

Is what you’re seeing their “experience”?

First picture - seems dull or an “I don’t know who I am” look. The ‘during’ looks to me like it’s either a strained or hard, or a soft determination to stay focused. And the ‘after’ seems more alert. More there there, and speaks of a kind of experience that asked these men to be so well defined: what side they’re on, what they would do and wouldn’t do in the face of danger, etc., that there is a kind of knowing of who they are. (For better or for worse).

I’d really like to see women’s faces if you’re going to do something like this next time though.

This isn’t about that teacher. This is about the system that holds all of our teachers and children hostage.

Actually - he doesn’t freak out. He is very poised and articulate. Good on him. There are some teachers who lead and take the students wellbeing into their hearts and there are teachers who just collect paychecks. Yes the “system” ties a lot of teaching up in “curriculum” but it is the attitude of the teacher that counts most. Most students do need inspiration to learn how to learn. Teach them that and they’ll be ok.
